Yo-Yo Magnets

I make these using my smallest clover yo-yo maker, buttons, and fabric scraps. Sometimes I use small scraps from other projects or else I use fabric from decorator's samples books. And then I repurpose even more by using used canning jar lids to hold sets of 5.

Cheese Fritters!

I decided to try out a recipe from my "Tapas" book the other day. I have wanted to try some of these recipes for a while now and finally got around to trying one out. These are pretty good but for some reason the fritter mixture was a bit to sticky. Also, the gorgonzola cheese didn't taste that strong for some reason, next time I think I will use more or perhaps try a hard cheese instead. Or perhaps some ham would be good too. The recipe makes a lot more than I thought. I ate a few earlier today that I heated up in the oven and they still tasted good. :)

Cheese Fritters
adapted from "Tapas" by Tomas Garcia

yields approximately 25

2 1/2 pounds of russet potatoes
1/2 stick of butter
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup of blue cheese or hard cheese (used gorgonzola)
salt and pepper
2 Tbsp parsley
1/2 teaspoon of grated nutmeg
1 tsp mustard powder
3-4 Tbsp flour
2 large eggs, beaten
6 Tbsp seasoned panko bread crumbs
1 1/2 cups oil for deep frying

Boil the potatoes, then drain and mash with the butter. Mix in the eggs and cheese. Season with salt and pepper, adding the parsley, grated nutmeg, and mustard powder. This should be a firm but not overly smooth mixture. Let it cool.

Take about a tablespo0n of the mixture and form into fritters. Roll the fritters in the flour then coat in the beaten egg and lastly roll in the bread crumbs.

Heat the oil in a large, heavy-duty saucepan until the temperature reaches 350 degrees F. Fry in small batches for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon, drain on paper towels, and serve immediately.

Procrastination

It seems I am always prone to wait till the last minute to do things. My cousin Stefani is turning 11 on Thursday and we just finished her presents today. I wonder if I will ever break this nasty habit. lol. So for her presents I decided on a pair of earrings and a bracelet. When I was talking to her she told me that she would like a pair of earrings like my czech glass heart ones. I asked my mom to make these since I am not good at using chain. And I needed to get working on the bracelet anyhow. I am more of a visual person so I always have to string and unstring my jewelry designs before coming up with my final design. Here are her gifts. I hope she likes them. :)

P.S. Anyone have any tips on taking photos of shiny objects?

Road Trip..

It is nice to take a road trip once in a while. On a recent road trip to BWI airport we stopped at Home Goods and found some great moroccan looking lanterns. I get excited when we find moroccan items since my bedroom is decorated with a marakesh theme to it. It was hard to chose just one lantern but I settled on this one since it is brass and most of the others were silver.

We also made stops at Trader Joes, Ikea, Chick Fil A, Starbucks, and Round The Clock Diner. I love the spinach salad at the diner. It has hot bacon dressing on it-Yummy! I love so many items at Traders Joes including the fig bars and everything crackers.

Here's a few pictures of my bedroom to give you an idea of the overall vibe. Anyone else go on a fun road trip lately?
